Local entrepreneur Mike Derry won the nomination to run for the UCP in Calgary-Shaw, beating city councillor Dan McLean.

Calgary-Shaw was held by former UCP cabinet minister Rebecca Schulz. She resigned from cabinet in December but stayed in the legislature until mid-May.
Under provincial law, a byelection must be called within six months after a seat is vacated.
