The precursor to Dodge’s return to the top level of NASCAR occurred in February with RAM returning to the NASCAR Truck Series, but Dodge itself could field cars in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2027, according to a report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic.
“Dodge is increasingly likely to enter NASCAR’s Cup Series in 2027 as a manufacturer and is working to finalize its plan, according to multiple industry sources briefed on the situation,” Bianchi wrote Thursday.
Dodge has not raced in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2012. The manufacturer did unveil a Gen-6 car for the 2013 season before the news broke that it would pull out of the sport, leaving just Toyota, Ford and Chevrolet competing at NASCAR’s highest level.
RAM CEO Tim Kuniskis previously said the manufacturer’s target for a Cup return was the 2027 Daytona 500, but as Bianchi notes, 2028 was Dodge’s “targeted” date for a return to full-time Cup Series competition.
