A 38-year-old St. John’s man is facing multiple charges following an RCMP investigation. The case began after border officers intercepted a suspicious package in Mississauga, Ontario. A subsequent search of the man’s home led to the seizure of prohibited weapons, firearms, and other items.
According to RCMP Federal Policing , Eastern Region, the investigation started on November 6, 2025, when the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) alerted officers that a package from an international shipper destined for St. John’s had been intercepted at the International Mail Processing Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The package contained a device prohibited under the Criminal Code.
Investigators identified the intended recipient as 38-year-old Lee Ballett of St. John’s. On November 20, 2025, RCMP officers executed a search warrant at his residence with assistance from CBSA Criminal Investigations and the RCMP Newfoundland and Labrador Emergency Response Team.
During the search, officers seized firearms, prohibited devices, edged weapons, brass knuckles, and other property.
On June 24, 2026, Ballett was charged with unauthorized importing or exporting, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, five counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a Schedule III substance, keeping or disposing of illegally imported goods, and smuggling into Canada.
