Trade rumors surrounding Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes have reignited recently following comments made on a recent edition of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast.Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes was at the center of trade rumors earlier this summer after Jim Rutherford mentioned the possibility of losing him to free agency in the years to come, saying that the blueliner has expressed a desire to play with his brothers Jack and Luke at some point during his National Hockey League career.Rumors were running rampant for quite some time in the early part of the offseason, with mock trades and different scenarios being brought up that could see Hughes leave the Canucks, but for now, Vancouver is focused on the 2025-26 campaign and starting contract talks with their captain when he becomes eligible for an extension on July 1st next summer.

While things may have quieted down a bit in regards to Quinn Hughes trade rumors, they won’t be going away anytime soon, not unless he’s signed to an extension, and the link between the Canucks defenseman & the New Jersey Devils was recently discussed on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast this week.

Quinn Hughes rumors reignite following comments on Spittin’ Chiclets podcast

On this week’s edition of the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast, former National Hockey League defenseman Ryan Whitney said he heard from someone that Quinn Hughes would end up with the New Jersey Devils in 2027 when he’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent.

Whitney jokingly shared with fellow Spittin’ Chiclets co-host Pasha Eshghi, who is a New Jersey Devils fan, that he doesn’t hope that happens.

“I was talking to somebody this weekend who, and this person, well, so I was hearing from them something that they were told, that Quinn Hughes will be on the New Jersey Devils in two years, I believe it is. So just like very funny and very kind of upsetting to me, I just don’t want good things to happen to you [Pasha] professionally hockey-wise.” Whitney said.

Thankfully for the Vancouver Canucks, they don’t have to worry about that threat of Quinn Hughes leaving anytime soon and can focus on their goal of returning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next spring.

Hopefully next summer, the Vancouver Canucks’ management staff, along with Quinn Hughes and his camp, will all be able to sit down and hammer out a long-term contract extension, potentially in the eight-year range before the NHL’s new CBA kicks in on September 15th, 2026.
