A Calgary police officer was charged with assault, stemming from an incident that occurred last year.
Imran Khan, a constable with six years of service, was charged with one count of assault, the Calgary Police Service said in a release Thursday.
The charge stems from an incident on May 22, 2025, when Calgary police officers responded to a call for service. During their response, Khan allegedly used excessive force on someone they had arrested by punching them repeatedly.
Following a review and consultation with the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s Office, a charge against Khan was recommended, police said.
Khan was released from custody and will next appear in court on Aug. 6.
He is currently suspended with pay while his status is reviewed, police said.
