Bam Margera put his parents, April and Phil Margera, and their house, through a lot over the years on “Jackass,” like lighting off fireworks inside, setting an alligator loose in the kitchen, and sledding down the stairs through the front door.
And even after all that, they’re still proud to be part of the series.
“It’s been all fun. We’ve all had a good time. They all had a great time, I’m proud of all of them. They did such an amazing job. I can’t believe it’s all these years later, and we’re still doing ‘Jackass,’ a show that I’m thinking, ‘How long is this gonna last?’” April told PauseRewind’s Elizabeth Stanton at the “Jackass: Best and Last” premiere Wednesday night.
The Margera home was the site of many a prank on “Jackass,” as well as the spin off series focused on them, titled “Viva La Bam.”
“We lived through ‘Jackass.’ We lived through ‘Jackass: The Movie.’ We lived through ‘Viva La Bam,’ which I don’t know how we did that. I’ve tried to explain things that are in our house, like trap doors and things, to people who come and fix our house. Like, ‘What’s wrong with your baseboards?’ Oh that’s from the ice skaters. It’s hard to explain,” April said with a laugh.
April and Phil have been more than good sports over the years, but there’s one prank that still irks April in particular.
“The first time they did the jet ski, they did it in my pool. You didn’t see that one. You saw the one that was done in the lap pool in Malibu. But the stones and the gas and the oil and what happened to my pool was a major main. Major pain!” she explained.
The kicker? “It didn’t even make the cut!”
But they just can’t stay mad at the “Jackass” team.
“This is such a family, a family of people who truly care about each other. And I think they’ve had a lot of fun. I mean, they’ve had a lot of pain, a lot of injuries, a lot, a lot of, and they’ve lived through it,” April said. She also noted the guys have weathered the loss of Ryan Dunn, who died in 2011 in a drunk driving car crash. “I think that’s an emotional thing for them as well. He’s part of the cast and always will be.”
Johnny Knoxville and most of the “Jackass” team have declared “Best and Last” as the final entry in the franchise, but not everybody is so certain.
“You can never say never, right?” April said. “I don’t know. Looks like it. I think maybe they’ll move on to other things and maybe they’ll grow up a little bit, but I doubt it.”
Phil added, “With that fan reaction we got when we came in, this isn’t the last one. They want more. They’re going to do more.”
“Jackass: Best and Last” is in theaters now.
