Two regular-season games at the Bell Centre this July offer fans in Quebec a chance to experience Canada’s first WNBA team live.
“Montreal is an incredible basketball city, and we’re excited to bring the Tempo to Quebec as part of our inaugural season,” said Teresa Resch, President, Tempo Basketball Club. “From the very beginning, our vision has been to build a team that represents fans across the country. Being able to play WNBA games at the Bell Centre and connect with the passionate basketball community in Montreal is a special moment for our organization and for the growth of the game in Canada.”
If either game at the Bell Centre sells out, it would become the highest attended WNBA game in league history, underscoring the extraordinary momentum behind women’s basketball in Canada.
“It’s our distinct privilege to host a pair of Tempo home games at the Bell Centre as part of their inaugural 2026 season,” said France Margaret Bélanger, President, Groupe CH Sports and Entertainment. “Local fans have in recent years shown incredible enthusiasm for a host of basketball games we’ve featured at our venues, from NBA preseason games to NCAA tournaments to regular season NBA G-League play. That we can now welcome the WBNA, at the Bell Centre, is a remarkable opportunity for our city.”
In May 2024, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) announced its expansion into Canada by awarding Toronto an expansion team, the league’s first outside the United States. The new team, owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, will began play this season as the WNBA’s 14th franchise.
