‘We recognize the lasting effects that violence has on families, neighbours and the broader public,’ says police chief

A Wasaga Beach man is one of two people charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a Mississauga man three years ago in Peel Region. 

On Friday, investigators with Peel Regional Police Service’s Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau announced they had arrested and charged four people in connection with a fatal shooting in Mississauga in 2023.

At approximately 7:30 p.m. on March 20, 2023, police say officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Dream Crest Road and Alicante Street in Mississauga. Upon arrival, police located a man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Life-saving measures were initiated, however the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene, police say. He was later identified as Bryan Lara-Alvarez, 29, of Mississauga.

A grey, four-door, newer-model SUV was seen fleeing the area following the shooting, police say.

“Following a complex and extensive investigation, investigators identified several suspects,” Peel Regional Police stated in a release. “As a result of executed search and arrest warrants, a firearm was seized and four individuals were taken into custody.

Shammar Osbourne, a 22-year-old Wasaga Beach man, and Shamba Tull, a 22-year-old Toronto man, have both been charged with first-degree murder.

Talena Farquharson-Miller, a 23-year-old Toronto woman, and Ahmed Hassan, a 23-year-old Toronto man, have both been charged with possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, and possession of a prohibited weapon, device or ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized.

None of the allegations have been tested in court. 

All four remain in custody pending bail hearings.

“These arrests mark a resolution in a case that deeply impacted our community,” Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah said in the release. “We recognize the lasting effects that violence has on families, neighbours and the broader public.”
