An array of free family activities will again be available to celebrate Canada Day on Wednesday, July 1, at Boitanio Park in Williams Lake.
According to a news release, the City of Williams Lake invites residents and visitors to come together to celebrate Canada’s 159th birthday with a community celebration from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We’re excited to once again welcome the community to Boitanio Park for Canada Day,” said Pepper Silvester, Child and Youth Recreation Program Coordinator.
“This year’s celebration will feature great local entertainment, exciting activities for children and families and a new soccer celebration that ties into Canada’s role as a host nation for the FIFA World Cup. There will be something for everyone to enjoy.”
Festivities will begin with opening remarks, a March on the Colours and a performance of ‘O Canada’ by the Williams Lake Community Band that will also perform a selection of music. There will be a special performance by country music group the Chris Goodwin Band from Prince George.
New this year, the city has partnered with the Williams Lake Youth Soccer Association to host a Canada Day Kickoff: Community Soccer Celebration featuring a youth skills competition, coaching and fun games on lined soccer pitches.
Local vendors and community organizations will be on site, as well as an eight-foot-by-four-foot cake donated by Save-On-Foods that will be served. Additional activities include a giant slip ‘n’ slide and games.
“Canada Day is an opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the people, cultures and experiences that make our country so strong,” Mayor Surinderpal Rathor said in the news release, encouraging everyone to participate in the fun-filled day.
