Lake Country’s Joe Iginla drafted to NHL’s Calgary Flames

Another Iginla seems destined for the pros.
On Saturday, June 27, 17-year-old Joe Iginla was selected by the Calgary Flames in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft at 65th overall.
Joe has spent three years in the WHL playing for the Edmonton Oil Kings and the Vancouver Giants.
In his 2025-26 season, Joe racked up 31 points combined on both teams, scoring 15 times and assisting 16 times.
Joe is the son of retired Calgary Flames icon Jarome Iginla, who played 16 seasons with the franchise and had his number 12 jersey hung up in the rafters.
After hearing the news on draft night, Joe is now the last of Jarome’s three children to be drafted to a professional team.
Joe sister, Jade Iginla was recently selected at 18th overall by the Professional Women’s Hockey League expansion franchise Hamilton earlier in June.
Joe’s brother, Tij Iginla, was selected at 6th overall by the Utah Mammoth in 2024. Since the draft, Tij has spent his subsequent years playing in the WHL for the Kelowna Rockets, where he racked up 90 points in under 50 games in his most recent season.
Like his siblings, Joe was born in Lake Country.
