The Texas Rangers (42-42) bring a four-game winning streak to the final stop on their 10-game road trip as they open a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians (44-40) on Monday night at Progressive Field in Cleveland. Texas moved into first place in the American League West on Sunday for the first time since April 25 while the Guardians are percentage points behind the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central after taking two of three over the weekend, improving to 4-7 since All-Star third baseman José Ramírez broke a bone in his left hand and had surgery on June 16.

Pinch-runner Jarred Kelenic sprinted home from second base on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth on Sunday as Texas completed a four-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays with a 3-2 victory. Joc Pederson led off the game with a home run and Elias Díaz delivered an RBI single in the sixth to put the Rangers up 2-0 before Toronto tied the game in the eighth. Kumar Rocker took a no-decision after working six scoreless innings, allowing four hits.

Rhys Hoskins capped a five-run rally in the eighth inning with a two-run double as the Guardians came back to beat the visiting Seattle Mariners 6-5 on Sunday. Chase DeLauter, in his first game back from the injured list, delivered a two-run single to tie the game and later scored on Hoskins’ go-ahead double. Cade Smith picked up his major-league leading 26th save after working around two hits and an unearned run in the ninth.

Rookie left-hander Parker Messick (7-4) takes the ball for Cleveland on Monday night as he comes into the game with a 2.67 ERA and 1.049 WHIP in 16 starts and 94.1 innings while striking out 101 batters. Left-hander Tyler Alexander (1-1), who earned his fourth save of the season on Sunday, will work as the opener for the Rangers. Alexander has a 2.70 ERA and 1.350 WHIP in 34 appearances and 33.1 innings and makes his third start.
