Three men were arrested when police stopped a vehicle near 124 Street and 82 Avenue after a passerby reported seeing what they believed to be a handgun.
Surrey Police Service Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton told the Now-Leader that police received a call from a passerby at 5:20 a.m. Monday.
“No weapon’s been recovered,” he said. “Someone saw what they believe was a firearm.
“Members responded, located the vehicle driving, initiated their emergency equipment, it pulled over and they arrested three people.”
There is a housing co-op, Kennedy Trail Park and Kennedy Trail Elementary School in the vicinity.
“It all happened right near that co-op. I don’t have any information about a pursuit or anything. They conducted a high-risk vehicle takedown and three people were arrested,” Houghton said.
Two were released and one is in custody.
“The area’s been searched and no weapon’s been found or recovered and we would always ask if anyone finds or sees what they think is a weapon to phone 911 immediately,” Houghton said.
Asked if police dogs were used to search the area, Houghton replied, “That I don’t know.”
Asked if a crime had been committed prior to the arrests, leading to a police pursuit, Houghton replied, “No, just a call from a passerby that they believed what they saw was a weapon inside the vehicle.”
“It was mobile and somebody phoned in saying they saw what they thought was a weapon in the vehicle,” he said. “Just a call from a passerby.
It has not been confirmed if there actually was a gun.
