Springbank Reservoir activated for first time due to high run-off

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas said the Springbank Off-stream Reservoir has been activated for the first time on Monday since becoming operational in May 2025. The reservoir temporarily diverts and stores floodwater to help reduce peak flows into the Glenmore Reservoir. Farkas says while no significant overbank flooding is expected in Calgary, the Bow and Elbow Rivers will remain high through Canada Day.
