Surrey zoning bylaw change to ‘clearly specify’ restricted number of worship places

Surrey council approved a zoning bylaw amendment on June 29 to “clearly specify” the number of places of worship permitted in select industrial zones.
A corporate report by Ron Gill, Surrey’s manager of planning and development, says the amendments specify how many “places of worship” may operate on-site, at any one time, related to various business park and light impact industrial zones.
The amendments as proposed see no more than one place of worship permitted on each lot. All strata lots within a single strata plan could together contain only a single place of worship, and a place of worship “shall not exceed” a gross floor area of 700 square metres.
The matter will now go to a public hearing on July 13.
