LETTER: What’s the real story with Surrey police chief’s ouster?

As a resident of White Rock, with considerable interest in what’s going on in the city that completely surrounds us, I am at a complete loss. What in heaven’s name is going on with Surrey policing?
We have reports of firings, mass resignations, chaotic board meetings, political shenanigans. But surely, in the interest of public safety, we need more clarity.
Sorry to say, but news reports only add to the confusion. Is there no regular columnist who serves as a city hall watcher, an insider who actually understands what’s happening? Is this part of the mayor’s continuing turf war with the province? Did the outgoing police chief do something wrong? Should we be concerned that the highly respected head of the police board resigned in a huff over the police chief’s dismissal?
There’s just so many questions. Meanwhile, stories of overnight shootings, gang-wars and extortionists from foreign countries are daily occurrences. Someone, perhaps the Premier, has to step in and sort this quagmire out before lives are unnecessarily lost.
