New, reconfigured baseball diamonds open at Delta’s Winskill Park

The new U13 and U15 baseball fields at Winskill Park are now officially open for public use, marking a significant milestone for the Winskill Renewal Project.
The City of Delta announced completion of the fields on Monday (June 29), two days after the opening of the 2026 Kyle Losse Memorial U15 Baseball Tournament put the newly completed fields to use for the first time.
“The opening of these new baseball diamonds is a significant moment for our community,” Mayor George Harvie. said in a city press release.
“Responding to input from residents and stakeholders, we have been able to develop high-end youth baseball fields that respond to local needs. Delta council looks forward to seeing these fields create space for recreation and friendly competition in our community for years to come.”
The new and upgraded U13 and U15 baseball diamonds are a major feature of the work being done in the park as part of the $130-million Winskill Renewal Project, which includes construction of a new aquatic & fitness centre with a roughly 1,300-square-metre “natatorium” (i.e. pool area) — twice the size of the current one.
In September 2024, council approved the addition of a fourth diamond and realignment of the existing fields at Winskill Park, as part of a refined site plan developed following discussion with field user groups.
Construction of the new diamonds was completed in the fall of 2025, with the installation of new irrigation and drainage systems, backstops, bleachers, lower-level fencing, fully accessible dugouts, and a batting cage. Grass was then planted in the infields and outfields, with a planned opening in June to giving the grass time to establish itself.
Construction of the new Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre is on budget and on pace to be finished on schedule in spring 2028, with the completion of most of the new recreation centre’s concrete foundations. The backfill process for the building — returning excavated earth to the site and compacting it to support the foundation walls — is also well underway.
The existing facility is expected to close for demolition in the fall of 2027.

Meanwhile, city staff are continuing research and analysis to support an eventual third recreation centre to serve North Delta.
Staff presented council with a 30-page report on the first phase of the city’s North Delta Facility Feasibility Study on June 15), which identified a “clear need” for a third recreation centre, particularly in the northeast area of the community.
Based on identified needs, the study recommends further exploration of a new community recreation facility with a gymnasium, fitness centre, indoor walking track, multi-purpose rooms, social gathering spaces, and an indoor aquatic component — its scale and configuration to be determined through further analysis.
The study also identified the possibility of including a twin-sheet ice arena, depending on site options and broader city-wide analysis of arena needs conducted as part of ongoing Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan work.
Based on comparable recreation facility projects in other B.C. communities, staff estimate the potential cost of the new facility would be “in the range of $150 million to $300 million, subject to facility scope, site conditions, design requirements, and future cost estimating.”
