Pankaj Tripathi Admits ‘Expensive’ Tickets Keep Audiences AWAY From Theatres: If We Have Fairly Priced…

Expensive ticket prices have often been attributed to the less footfall in cinemas. A decline in footfall has been a cause of concern for both distributors and filmmakers alike. While many believe that the ticket prices keep audiences away from cinemas, some feel that the rise of OTT and changing viewer preferences could be a reason. However, Pankaj Tripathi thinks that the ‘expensive’ ticket prices are the main reason behind decreased footfall in theatres.

Pankaj Tripathi on costly ticket prices

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Pankaj admitted, “Ticket pricing ek mudda hai aur uski bhi ek bhumika hai [in poor collections]. If a family has to go to the theatre today, it’s a very costly affair. Ticket prices and the food served there are so expensive.”

The actor added that the ‘business game’ is beyond his understanding as he is less aware about cinema’s commercial aspect. However, “I do feel that movie tickets are too costly and that’s surely a deterrent.” As the actor continued to share his thoughts, he revealed why the costly ticket prices are to be blamed.

“On Tuesdays or on National Cinema Day, when the prices are lowered, the occupancy in cinema halls goes up. So, if we have fairly priced tickets, the footfall will surely increase. For a family to spend ₹2,000 and spare five hours (including travel time) is not an easy thing,” he added.
