Legendary musician, artist and writer Kim Gordon is coming for one night to Vancouver’s Hollywood Theatre. The show’s opener is experimental pop artist SASAMI.
The Vancouver stop supports the former Sonic Youth frontwoman’s third solo album PLAY ME, released earlier this year. The record delves into the absurdities of modern life, focusing on the collateral damage of the billionaire class, the demolition of democracy, the AI-fueled flattening of culture and Gordon’s unmistakable spoken-sung voice.
The album has also spawned visually ambitious videos for tracks including “NOT TODAY,” “PLAY ME” and “DIRTY TECH.”
In the album’s notes, Gordon explains that PLAY ME is a more focused album than its predecessor. “We wanted the songs to be short,” she says. “We wanted to do it really fast. It’s more focused, and maybe more confident.”
Expect a night of nostalgia and fearless experimentation, whether you’ve been listening to Gordon since her early days as a member of Sonic Youth or stumbled upon her through PLAY ME, this one might just leave you thinking long after the lights come up.
