Surrey’s Canada Day event draws more than 80K people

Surrey’s July 1st Canada Day celebration drew more than 80,000 people to the Bill Reid Millennium Amphitheatre in Cloverdale.

It’s reputedly the largest Canada Day celebration in Western Canada.

“Eighty thousand, it’s crazy,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “People really want to come to these events, they want this kind of activity in our city and we also know 50 per cent of entertainment dollars are leaving Surrey. We need to keep those dollars here.”

Canadian country star Josh Ross headlined the event, which also heard performances from Lee Aaron and Tyler Shaw.

People enjoyed live entertainment on four stages, an Indigenous village and marketplace, food trucks, beer gardens, amusement rides with fireworks as a grand finale.

Surrey’s Canada Day event was presented by Prospera.

“Surrey Canada Day is always a great event,” said Raquel Santos, manager of community engagement at Prospera. “It’s fantastic to see our community come together, celebrate, and have fun. The event has so much to offer, and we really welcome these opportunities to be involved and make connections.”
