North Vancouver RCMP say a volleyball coach has been charged following an investigation into multiple sexual assault complaints.
Police said Thursday that Iraj Mozaffari has been charged with three counts of sexual interference of a person under 16, two counts of touching a young person for sexual purpose and five counts of sexual assault.
Police said the offences are alleged to have occurred between January 2016 and December 2024, when a report was first made to the North Vancouver RCMP and an investigation was launched.
Mozaffari was arrested in April of last year and granted conditional release while police conducted their investigation.
RCMP would not confirm whether those conditions included a ban on coaching.
Videos posted to the Toop O Toor Volleyball Club’s Instagram page in the months since Mozaffari’s arrest show him coaching and interacting with young members, though it’s unclear when the videos were filmed.
Just two weeks ago a video featuring Mozaffari was uploaded advertising the club’s summer camp.
A publication ban is in place to protect the identities of the five people who made the allegations.
At a press conference on Thursday, North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Mansoor Sahak said the news would be upsetting for members of the community.
“We would like to thank those that came forward to provide statements,” he said.
“Without their courage, we would not be in the position we are in today.”
He urged anyone who may be a victim to reach out for support.
“We will listen, we will take a statement from you and we will do everything we can within our powers to support you,” he said.
