More than 50,000 Hydro-Québec clients are without power as the province’s heat wave enters its third day.
The utility says multiple regions of Quebec are still without power due to the thunderstorms that accompanied scorching temperatures throughout the province. Fewer than 2,500 of the outages were on Montreal Island Friday morning.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a moderate heat warning for Montreal, with temperatures forecast to reach a high of 32 C on Friday. The weather agency is anticipating a humidex of 39 and a “very high” UV index of 9, warning there is risk of thunderstorms late Friday afternoon.
“Due to the high number of outages and the extent of the damage observed in certain areas, service restoration will take longer than one night for some affected customers,” Hydro-Québec wrote on its outage tracker.
Temperatures are expected to ease slightly by Saturday morning, with a forecast high of 28 C.
