Peel Regional Police have arrested a 41-year-old Mississauga man and recovered nearly $1 million in stolen property following a break-in at Square One Shopping Centre in April.
Police allege that shortly after midnight on April 30, a masked suspect allegedly forced entry into a store at the shopping mall and stole high-value jewelry and clothing before fleeing on foot. Investigators say the suspect then allegedly stole an unoccupied vehicle that had been left running nearby. The vehicle was recovered the following day.
Following an extensive investigation, including video canvassing, officers from the 11 Division Break and Enter Auto and Retail (BEAR) Organized Crime Unit identified a suspect and executed a search warrant at a Mississauga residence, where they recovered a significant amount of stolen property.
Amir Nikbakht, 41, of Mississauga, has been charged with possession of break-in instruments, disguise with intent, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, fail to comply, and breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing as officers work to identify additional victims and related thefts. Peel Regional Police noted that while retail theft has remained relatively consistent over the past year, arrests and charges have increased by more than 30 per cent, crediting intelligence-led enforcement efforts by the BEAR Organized Crime Unit, which was launched in September 2025 to target organized retail crime.
