Canada’s World Cup team will once again take the field this weekend, and you can watch Brampton’s soccer heroes in their hometown at a watch party in Brampton.
Canada’s team has had a historic run in this year’s tournament, including a game-tying goal by Brampton’s Cyle Larin against Bosnia-Herzegovina that pushed Canada to its first-ever point in a World Cup match.
The team faces a do-or-die match against Morocco on Saturday, and the city is hosting a watch party in Garden Square starting at 1 p.m. with soccer-inspired programming, fan experiences and community activities.
Players with Brampton roots make up a solid portion of Canada’s team in the 2026 tournament, including Tajon Buchanan, Liam Millar, Jonathan Osorio, Promise David and Jayden Nelson – who was a late addition to Canada’s roster as a replacement for injured midfielder Marcelo Flores.
Sigma FC is based in neighbouring Mississauga, but has developed many players from Brampton, including Larin. Smyrniotis said municipal infrastructure has had a huge impact on soccer in Peel Region.
Canada plays its next World Cup match against Morocco on Saturday at 1 p.m.
