A 64-year-old man who was left in critical condition after his vehicle crashed into another car and then an apartment building in Anjou on Friday evening is now out of danger, Montreal police say.

The crash happened around 6 p.m. near the corner of Châteauneuf Blvd. and Baldwin St.

Police said the man was driving on Châteauneuf Blvd. when, for reasons that remain unknown, he changed lanes and collided with another vehicle driven by a 40-year-old woman.

After the collision, the man’s vehicle crashed into a nearby apartment building.

He was rushed to hospital in critical condition Friday night. However, an SPVM spokesperson told The Gazette his condition has since improved and his life is no longer in danger.

The woman was also taken to hospital. Police said she suffered injuries, but they are not considered life-threatening.

Investigators are still working to determine why the man changed lanes.

As of Saturday morning, investigators are reviewing evidence, including surveillance footage, as they work to establish what led to the crash.
