Coalition Avenir Québec Leader and Premier Christine Fréchette will announce on Thursday that she intends to run in the Trois-Rivières, Que., riding in the next election instead of Sanguinet, Radio-Canada is reporting.
TVA first reported on the riding change, which Radio-Canada sources confirmed on Monday afternoon.
The news comes nearly two months after the Parti Québécois declared it would run former Bloc Québécois House leader Alain Therrien in the Sanguinet electoral district, located in the Montérégie region, south of Montreal.
Fréchette, who was born in Trois-Rivières, has served as MNA for Sanguinet, since 2022.
She is expected to make a statement on Thursday morning at the Mariana distillery in Trois-Rivières.
Jean Boulet, Quebec’s labour minister and the minister responsible for Canadian relations, currently holds the local seat. However, he recently announced that he would not be seeking re-election.
