Valve may be ready to reveal Steam Frame price and release date

Valve has already launched the new Steam Controller and Steam Machine, leaving Steam Frame as the only product from its latest hardware lineup still waiting for release. The VR headset still has no confirmed price or launch date, but the latest signs suggest Valve may be getting close.

A new shipment of Steam Frame units has reportedly arrived at Valve’s US warehouses, alongside two more Steam Machine shipments. If you add up the numbers from the previous shipments, says this brings Steam Frame to 14 total shipments, which is a strong sign that Valve is building up inventory before opening orders.

Steam Frame shipments suggest launch prep is moving fast

Steam Frame has been showing up in import and shipment data for weeks, and the pattern now looks familiar.

Steam Machine and Steam Controller were also spotted arriving in the US before Valve shared final launch details and started moving units to customers.

That does not confirm the headset will launch immediately, but it does make a near-term announcement feel more likely. Valve has already said Steam Frame is shipping this summer, and July now looks like the month to watch.

Valve describes the device as a standalone VR headset that can also stream VR and non-VR games from a PC. The headset is built around SteamOS, wireless streaming, eye tracking, and a dedicated wireless adapter for low-latency PC play.

Steam Frame backend updates point to a public release

Valve has also been updating Steam’s backend with Steam Frame-related files, icons, compatibility data, and setup content.

The headset’s Welcome Tour has reportedly appeared in SteamTracking in multiple languages, which usually happens when a product or feature is being prepared for a wider rollout.

Compatibility ratings are also starting to appear. Portal 2 recently received a Steam Frame “Playable” rating, which suggests Valve is already testing games for the headset’s standalone mode.

Steam Frame compatibility labels are meant to show whether a game works properly on the headset without extra setup.

Valve recently expanded its Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame. For Steam Frame, the label focuses on standalone play, including default graphics settings, readable UI, clear text, and controller support.

Steam Frame price and release date may be next

The biggest missing details are still price and availability. Valve has not confirmed whether Steam Frame will launch through direct orders, reservations, a lottery system, or limited regional availability.

The price is also difficult to predict. Valve previously aimed to keep Steam Frame below the original Valve Index full-kit price, but rising memory and component costs have made Valve’s 2026 hardware more expensive than many people expected. Steam Machine launched at $1,049 for the base model, which has already made players nervous about Steam Frame pricing.

Valve could finally reveal the Steam Frame price and release date after the Steam Summer Sale ends. Until then, the headset remains the last missing piece of Valve’s new Steam hardware lineup.
