Distinct blend of species and slow-cooked gravies deliver rich, comforting flavours

Rooted in a culinary legacy that began in India in the late 1960s, Chawlas 2 has grown into a beloved franchise known for its signature North Indian flavours, rich and comforting dishes that have stood the test of time.

Originally founded in the city of Haldwani, the restaurant first made its mark with two specialty dishes that remain at the heart of its identity today.

“It all began with the cream chicken and cream paneer – two recipes that use unique flavours and spices that can’t be replicated or found anywhere else,” says Chawlas 2 Surrey owner Ikbir Singh.

Over the years, they’ve expanded across India, opening multiple locations and becoming renowned for their distinct blend of species and slow-cooked gravies.

That legacy is now serving Surrey’s diverse and growing South Asian community.

A traditional taste of India, close to home

For Singh, opening the franchise locally was deeply personal. “I’ve been going to Chawlas restaurants since childhood, and when I moved to Canada, I really missed that authentic and flavourful taste from India,” he says.

After noticing the vast South Asian community in Surrey, Ikbir and his business partner opened Chawlas 2 in June 2025, the first location in British Columbia.

“Ever since we opened, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with many customers saying this is the only spot that has nailed the taste of India and reminds them of food back home,” Singh says.

Authentic roots, evolving flavours

Beyond its signature cream chicken, the menu features popular favourites such as rara chicken, rara paneer, butter chicken and karahi chicken, alongside newer additions, including noodles, pav bhaji and spring rolls, reflecting the brand’s evolving approach while staying true to its roots.

In addition to visiting Chawlas 2 at 8363 128 St. #107, watch for them at community events across the Lower Mainland this summer, including a pop-up at the Latin Food Festival July 11 and 12, and India Day in Cloverdale on Aug. 23. Be sure to stop by to try one of their signature dishes!
