For the final event before the Open Championship, the Genesis Scottish Open will be played at the Renaissance Club (par 70, 7,282 yards, fescue greens) in North Berwick, Scotland. This is the eighth straight year that the Renaissance Club has hosted the Scottish Open and is the fifth year in a row that this event has been co-sanctioned between the PGA TOUR and the DP World Tour. This is a stacked field of 156 golfers with a top-65 and ties cut after the first two rounds.

The Renaissance Club is a seaside links course that presents narrow fairways, thick rough, large greens, 83 bunkers and zero water hazards. Efficient drivers have had an advantage at this track over the last few years with each of the last three winners at the Renaissance Club finishing the event top-10 in SG OTT. A strong showing with your irons is even more important, as for four years running, the victor of the Scottish Open has finished the tournament top-eight in SG APP. Putting well is also crucial at the Renaissance Club, as this track’s large greens are complex and challenging to navigate. Three of the past four winners here have finished the week top-20 in SGP.

The Renaissance Club is an untraditional par 70 that features 10 par fours, five par threes and three par fives. Still, scoring on the par fours is most vital for success, as each of the past two winners at the Renaissance Club have led their fields in par four performance.

Eric Cole ($7,400): Cole has been excellent, missing only one cut in his last 10 starts and producing five top-15 finishes during this span. Cole was very close to claiming his first PGA TOUR win at the Charles Schwab Challenge in late May, losing to Russell Henley in a playoff. He also ranks 15th in total strokes when we compare this field’s last 24 rounds.

Cole finished T39th at the John Deere Classic this past week and posted some great scores along the way, with an 8-under 63 in the second round and a 6-under 65 in the final round. Besides around the greens, Cole gained strokes in every major category at TPC Deere Run. At the Renaissance Club, Cole has been solid, finishing T60th and T46th, and he has displayed some strong upside here, shooting a 6-under 64 twice. Cole ranks sixth in proximity to the hole on 175-200-yard approach shots this season, which is tremendous news for his return to the Renaissance Club as 25.4% of the approach shots at this course over the last five years have come from this distance. A top-25 finish is within reach for Cole this week and he is a terrific value at only $7,400.

Sahith Theegala ($7,300): Theegala was in the mix for a win the last time he visited the Renaissance Club, finishing T4th two years ago. Theegala carded a 5-under 65 in the second round that week and is having a strong bounce back season in 2026 after struggling in 2025. Theegala has only missed one cut in 20 starts and has finished inside the top-25 nine times.

The 28-year-old is coming off a mediocre T51st finish at the Travelers Championship, but this was a product of just one poor round at TPC River Highlands. Theegala posted a 4-over 74 in the first round but then shot 67, 67 and 65 in his final three rounds. Theegala ranked second in SG APP for the final round of this Signature Event. He should be highly motivated to contend at the Renaissance Club again to book himself a ticket to next week’s Open Championship, as the top-three finishers who have yet to qualify for the major will earn a spot at Royal Birkdale.

Matt McCarty ($7,000): McCarty finished T22nd in his debut at the Renaissance Club last season — including a 5-under 65 in the second round — and he is fresh off a T30th finish at the Travelers Championship. McCarty fired off a 7-under 63 in the third round and led the world-class field at TPC River Highlands in SG APP.

McCarty gained a career-best 1.87 strokes on approach. If his irons can stay hot at the Renaissance Club, McCarty absolutely could best the T22 he posted at this par 70 a year ago. McCarty has made eight of his last 11 cuts with four top-12 finishes over this time.
