A months-long investigation into a string of vehicle thefts and attempted thefts in Mississauga has resulted in one arrest and a Canada-wide warrant for a second suspect.
Peel Regional Police say the thefts occurred in May 2026 and targeted underground parking garages at residential buildings near Hurontario Street and Burnhamthorpe Road East. Several vehicles were stolen, while others were damaged during attempted thefts.
Investigators launched Project Tail Light to identify those responsible. Using surveillance video, Automated Licence Plate Recognition technology, body-worn camera footage, and community tips, police identified two suspects.
Search warrants executed at homes in Mississauga and Erin led to the seizure of several cellphones, key fobs, key-programming devices, vehicle-related documents, and approximately $1,465 in cash believed to be proceeds of crime.
A 21-year-old Mississauga man has been arrested and charged with 22 offences, including multiple counts of motor vehicle theft, possession of break-and-enter instruments, mischief over $5,000, theft, fraud, and breach of a release order. He was held for a bail hearing in Brampton.Please note that all these charges have not been proven in a court.
Police have also issued an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Gurjeet Singh Virk (Pictured) who is wanted in connection with 22 related offences. Investigators are urging him to surrender to the nearest police station.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to analyze the seized evidence and pursue additional leads.
