It meant Wallace eventually finished the race down in 28th place, rather than having the chance to challenge surprise winner Austin Dillon for first place.

But he still left with his postseason picture boosted after picking up two extra playoff points.

One of those came for the Xfinity fastest lap, clocking a 22.96 second time nobody else could match during the race.

Another came by winning Stage 2 to pick up another playoff point. He now has eight playoff points, the seventh most of anyone in the field.

DON’T MISS:

Denny Hamlin currently leads the way with 24 playoff points, ahead of Kyle Larson (23), Shane van Gisbergen (22), Christoper Bell and William Byron (both 17) and Ryan Blaney (11).

Wallace is now level with Austin Cindric on eight with Chase Briscoe and Joey Logano (both 7), Josh Berry, Ross Chastain and Chase Elliott (all 6), Austin Dillon (5) just behind.

Those extra two points could be vital as Wallace looks to progress deep into the postseason. But his teammate, Tyler Reddick, is facing a precarious position to make it on points with Dillon the 14th different winner ahead of the final regular season race at Daytona next week.

He was left furious after a wreck ruined his race, finishing 34th after Daniel Suarez made contact with Ty Gibbs and left him caught up in the chaos.

Reddick admitted: “It’s pretty much worst-case scenario. We can thank Daniel Suarez for that. (Suarez) moved (Ty Gibbs). (Suarez) was frustrated.

“Whatever it was, (Gibbs) got in his way, was racing him and he moved him and it spun me out. Went from a car that was one of the fastest on the track to one of the slowest.”
