A section of Peter Lougheed Provincial Park has been closed after a grizzly bear and its cubs were spotted in the area.

Alberta Parks says the closure affects the Rawson Lake Trail and Sarrail Ridge after the bear was seen feeding nearby. The precautionary closure came into effect Sunday, July 5, and will remain in place until further notice.

Officials are reminding visitors that wildlife encounters can happen anywhere in the park and are encouraging people to stay alert while outdoors.

Visitors are advised to make noise while hiking, travel in groups, keep pets on leash, carry bear spray, secure attractants, and remain aware of their surroundings.
