In a concerning incident that highlights the vulnerability of our senior citizens, an elderly woman in Mississauga was targeted in a distraction theft on June 26 at around 4:20 p. m. The incident occurred in the area of Garnetwood Chase and Rathburn Road East. A female suspect, described as between 40 and 50 years old with a medium build and black hair, approached the victim after exiting a blue Kia Sportage. She distracted the elderly woman by placing a fake gold chain around her neck while repeatedly asking if she was okay.

During this interaction, a male suspect joined her, attempting to silence the victim by covering her mouth. Amid the struggle, the suspects managed to steal the woman’s 18-karat gold necklace and pendant, valued at approximately $3,500. The suspects fled westbound on Rathburn Road East in a vehicle without license plates. Police are actively seeking public assistance in identifying the suspects and have reminded residents to be cautious when approached by strangers offering unsolicited assistance or gifts.

Victims may also have rights to compensation through insurance claims, depending on the specifics of the policy. It’s crucial to document any interactions with suspects and keep records of stolen items to assist with investigations and insurance claims.
