Vancouver Island has once again claimed the top spot as Canada’s favourite island, according to readers of Travel + Leisure magazine.

The Island was ranked No. 1 in Canada in the publication’s annual World’s Best Awards 2026, holding onto the title thanks to its combination of rugged coastlines, vibrant communities and world-renowned outdoor experiences. More than 207,000 readers participated in this year’s survey, casting over 661,000 votes across destinations around the world.

The annual rankings are based on readers’ ratings of destinations for their natural attractions, activities, food, friendliness and overall value.

Travel + Leisure highlighted Vancouver Island’s diverse appeal; readers praised the Island’s whale watching, lush forests and scenic coastline.

Joining Vancouver Island in this year’s Canadian rankings were Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, in second place and Prince Edward Island in third.

The recognition adds to a growing list of accolades for Vancouver Island tourism. Earlier this year, the Wickaninnish Inn in Tofino was named Canada’s top luxury hotel in Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards.
