Hwy. 400 grass fire backs up northbound lanes near Steeles

Cars can been seen moving slowing on NB Highway 400 as a grass fire has cause smoke to cover the highway.

A grass fire in the northbound lanes of Highway 400 is causing “major problems” for drivers in north of Toronto this afternoon.

The fire broke out along the highway near Steeles Avenue.

“We are dealing with some major, major problems impacting the drive on the northbound lanes of the 400,” CP24 Traffic Specialist Adwoa Nsiah-Yeboah said on Wednesday afternoon.

“We are dealing with a grass fire. It is completely in flames and there is black smoke everywhere.”

She said the smoke has reduced visibility for drivers in both directions and two northbound lanes are blocked, along with the exit ramp to Steeles Avenue.

Fire crews are now on scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
