A 19-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a 38-year-old man was fatally shot in central Edmonton last weekend, police say.
In a news release Wednesday, the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) said officers responded to a weapons complaint in the Queen Mary Park neighbourhood, near 106th Avenue and 113th Street, around 6:30 a.m. MT Saturday. There, police found an injured man.
Police said paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the man, but he was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital.
After an autopsy completed Monday, the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office determined the victim died from gunshot wounds and ruled their death a homicide, police said.
The accused was arrested Tuesday in relation to the fatal shooting, police said. But the release added that he’s facing “numerous other firearms-related charges” and was wanted for attempted murder for a shooting in May.
EPS said detectives are seeking any footage from July 4 of a dark-coloured SUV fleeing the area of 111th to 115th streets and 103rd to 107th avenues, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. on Saturday.
Investigators are also looking for footage of 113th Street, from 105th to 106th avenues, from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. that same morning, police said.
