Kent Hughes’ pursuit is far from over.
The Montreal Canadiens’ general manager continues to search for a top-six forward, and he’s still on the phone-even in the middle of July-trying to find the right trade.
That’s according to Elliotte Friedman.
The draft and July 1 are behind them, but Kent Hughes is keeping a close eye on the trade market.
“One of the Canadiens’ sources of frustration right now is that they’re still wondering if they can find a talented young top-six forward, someone in their twenties.”
Friedman is warning the rest of the league.
The Canadiens could make their move very soon.
Kent Hughes reportedly pushing aggressively for a top-six forward trade
Hughes is determined to improve his team:
“I’m hearing that the team could be very aggressive in its efforts, and I can tell you that it will be.
I don’t think we’ve heard the last of the Canadiens this summer,” Friedman added.
Friedman even provided a concrete example.
He once again brought up Kirill Marchenko, whom the Columbus Blue Jackets have no interest in trading at the moment.
Hughes isn’t just sitting back and waiting-he’s knocking on every door.
Friedman added that the Canadiens have reportedly contacted every team in the league regarding available centermen…
The need is real despite a strong season.
The Montreal Canadiens finished with a 48-24-10 record, but the offense still lacks depth.
Nick Suzuki has carried the offense on his shoulders for several years now, coming off a 101-point season, but adding a young center would certainly help lighten that burden.
Based on Friedman’s comments, it’s not a question of “if,” but rather “when” the Canadiens will announce a major trade.
