Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher believes Max Verstappen is heading for an exit from Red Bull, claiming the relationship between the reigning world champion and the team has been seriously damaged.
Speaking on the Backstage Boxengasse podcast, Schumacher said Red Bull was disappointed that Verstappen refused to publicly dismiss speculation about activating his exit clause during the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
“From what I understand, people at Red Bull took it very badly that Max Verstappen did not make it clear at the Red Bull Ring, when everyone was there, that he would waive this exit clause. I believe that, ultimately, this exit clause is what led Red Bull to start looking elsewhere,” Schumacher said.
Schumacher added that Red Bull has already begun considering alternative options on the driver market. He also referred to rumours surrounding Oscar Piastri, claiming there are suggestions the Australian has lost confidence in McLaren, although any potential move would be complicated by his existing contract.
