A new 32,000-square-foot grocery store has opened in the Greater Toronto Area.

Food Basics launched Thursday in the Clarkson Village Shopping Centre, at 1865 Lakeshore Rd. W. The Mississauga store marks the fifth of eight new locations opening this year.

According to grocery brand, the new store will employ a team of 110 people. This is the discount banner’s 156th store in Ontario.

“We are excited to be able to bring Food Basics to the Clarkson community, offering more ways for residents to save on quality products,” said John Manax, vice-president of operations.

“No matter where you live, people are always looking for ways to save. Residents who may be first-time shoppers at Food Basics will get to know us as a discount grocer that is a reliable source for fresh, always in-stock, healthy food at great prices.”

The store will offer “high-quality, budget-friendly Irrésistible and Selection products, locally sourced products, fresh meat and produce, along with fresh BBQ chicken.”

Food Basics’ new location will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

“Our main goal is to provide our customers with the best discount shopping experience possible with the most value at the lowest prices possible,” said store manager Tara Gerow. “I’m looking forward to opening our doors and welcoming everyone to our new and modern store here in Mississauga.”

Other store openings in the GTA

This week, Walmart Canada announced it would be opening a new Supercentre in Ontario next year.

Brampton’s Bramalea City Centre, located at 25 Peel Centre Dr., will be the home of the 140,000-square-foot Supercentre.

According to the retailer, the new space will feature Walmart’s full general merchandise assortment, a full grocery assortment and a pharmacy.

Additionally, last month T&T Supermarket announced it would be opening a new 40,000-square-foot location at CF Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke.

Located at 25 The West Mall, the store is expected to be unveiled in the summer of 2027. It will be situated on the lower level of the mall where Pusateri used to be and marks the chain’s 17th location in Ontario.
