20 months on: Surrey MLA finally gets constituency office

Twenty months on, Linda Hepner has finally opened her constituency office.
The first-ever MLA for the new riding of Surrey-Serpentine River, Hepner held a grand opening June 25. She said she was “thrilled” to finally be able to swing open the office doors.
“Having a welcoming space where people can connect, share their concerns, and access support is so important to me,” Hepner told the Cloverdale Reporter. “I look forward to meeting with constituents, listening to their ideas, and working together to make our community even stronger.”
She said because Surrey-Serpentine River is a brand-new riding, there was no constituency office that she could take over from the riding’s former MLA. That is the usual practice with most ridings, whether provincial or federal.
“The Legislative Assembly’s leasing team needed time to find a location that met the security, accessibility, and operational requirements of a provincial government office,” Hepner explained. “While it took longer than we would have liked, it never affected our commitment to serving our constituents.”
She said her and her team continued helping people via phone, email, and conducting meetings in the community.
“Now, we’re excited to finally have a permanent, welcoming space where residents can easily connect with us and access the support they need.”
Hepner noted now that she had a dedicated office, her team’s engagement with constituents will only improve.
“We encourage anyone needing assistance in the Surrey-Serpentine area to call or email us to schedule a meeting.”
Hepner spent four years as Surrey mayor (2014-2018) and did not seek reelection in the 2018 Surrey municipal race. She has lived and worked in Surrey for more than 40 years, was the city’s economic development manager, and spent nine years as a city councillor before winning the mayoral seat 12 years ago.
Surrey-Serpentine River was a new provincial electoral district contested for the first time in the 2024 British Columbia general election. The riding, located between Cloverdale and Newton, was created out of portions of Surrey-Cloverdale, Surrey-Panorama, and Surrey-Fleetwood. Both farmland and Surrey’s Serpentine River cut through the centre of the riding, separating the small south-east corner of the new electoral district—comprising West Cloverdale—from both the Fleetwood and East Newton portions.
Hepner’s new constituency office is located at #7 – 14455 64th Avenue.
