We have new information regarding the rumors linking Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens to an offer sheet.
Kent Hughes will not be joining the wave of offer sheets currently shaking up the NHL, according to all indications.
The Canadiens’ general manager will apparently watch from the sidelines this summer, if we go by the recent statement from the excellent Stu Cowan.
Offer sheets have become commonplace in today’s NHL.
That’s not even counting the threat of offer sheets, which are causing plenty of movement behind the scenes.
So, should the Canadiens join the party?
Stu Cowan’s answer is clear.
“I don’t see the Canadiens submitting an offer sheet,” he said.
If it had been part of Kent Hughes’ plans, it would most likely have already happened, because Hughes is that kind of general manager.
He plans ahead and does not change his plans, for example, in the middle of the summer.

The trade completed with the Vegas Golden Knights during the NHL Draft essentially tied Kent Hughes’ hands when it came to making a possible offer sheet.
That suggests Hughes saw this wave coming but never intended to take part in it.
The Canadiens have approximately $14.23 million in cap space.
That’s too little for the new price range established by Leo Carlsson and Daniel Brière.
While the rest of the league is throwing around offer sheets, Hughes is quietly working on his own files.
