Périgueux – Bergerac: 180.4km / 1150m+
As was the case the day before, the sprinters will fancy their chances on this 180km dash to Bergerac, famed for its many vineyards. Just like the wine producers, the race organizers will hope for a fine vintage.
Marcel Kittel won a very similar stage of the Tour de France from Périgeux in 2017, while the three other stage finishes in Bergerac were time trials won by Jacques Anquetil, Miguel Indurain, and Tony Martin.
Breakaways are inevitable today, particularly with some rising roads towards Thenon early on, but the only categorized climbs come later in the stage.
They are both category 4 ascents, with the Côte de Domme and the Côte du Buisson-de-Cadouin both located in the second half of the day’s racing, but being followed by a long, fast run-in towards the line.
With few sprint opportunities coming before this stage, expect the green jersey contenders to start to solidify, with those in form becoming more and more obvious. Will Tim Merlier or Olav Kooij pick up another stage win, or will the spoils go to another?
