SHAWANO (WLUK) — A Shawano daycare center is rallying around the family of a 5-year-old girl who unexpectedly died at a mini golf course last week.

Bullfrogs and Butterflies Childcare Center hosted a fundraising event Friday at its facility at 201 Eberlein Park Drive in honor of Charlotte Johnson. The funds will go straight to the Johnson family.
“We’ve had a lot of people come from all over the place,” said event organizer Jamie Popp. “It’s been very busy, just seeing the support is awesome.”
The event includes food, raffle baskets, a bake sale and a bounce house. It ran from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Emergency responders were called to a mini golf course on E. Green Bay Street July 1 for a report of an unresponsive child. Johnson was pulled from a pond on the property. FOX 11 called the Shawano Police Department to ask if they had an update to the investigation, but they were unavailable on Friday afternoon.

“I cannot imagine losing a child and just being a business owner myself, with the mini golf course and what they’re all going through as well,” said Popp. “Just everybody’s been so supportive of both families in our community.”
Shawano Mini Golf reopened on Friday.
“My heart is completely shattered over what occurred that night,” said owner Dusty DeLorme on Facebook last week. “My most sincere thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of this young child.”
