Delta mayor and council paid total of $872,198 last year

Delta’s mayor and councillors received over $872,000 in total salary, vehicle allowance, expanses and benefits last year.

On June 29, council received Delta’s 2025 Statement of Financial Information (SOFI), a document required under B.C.’s Financial Information Act and Community Charter that must be approved by both city management and council.

The SOFI includes the city’s audited financial statements (adopted by council on May 11); a management report on the audited statements; the remuneration and expenses of council; a schedule of employees with remuneration exceeding $75,000; supplier payments for goods and services exceeding $25,000; payments for grants; and any severance, indemnity and debt agreements.

As set out in Delta’s Council Members Remuneration Bylaw No. 8241, last revised in 2023, Mayor George Harvie received a base salary of $187,998 — a 2.78 per cent increase over the $182,919 he was paid in 2024.

Harvie also received a car allowance of $18,720 (up $14 from 2024) and benefits worth $8,410 (an increase of 14.5 per cent), while claiming expenses totalling $3,525 — up from $3,199 in 2024.

Councillors each received a base salary of $79,999 (up from $77,838 in 2024, the same percentage increase as the mayor’s compensation) and a car allowance of $12,368 ($17 more than in 2024).

Coun. Dylan Kruger received additional remuneration of $18,800 for time served as acting mayor. Bylaw No. 8241 provides that councillors receive an additional stipend based on 10 per cent of the mayor’s monthly salary for each month they are designated the responsibility of acting mayor.

Kruger and councillors Daniel Boisvert, Alicia Guichon and Jennifer Johal each received benefits worth $8,892 (up from $7,705 in 2024), while councillors Rod Binder and Jessie Dosanjh each received benefits worth $7,523 (up from $6,501).

Kruger received the most in claimed expenses ($8,233), followed by Johal ($7,723), Boisvert ($7,383), Binder ($5,565), Dosanjh ($880) and Guichon ($145).
