The Cloverdale Agriplex welcomed nearly 300 fans to watch the France vs. Morocco game July 9.

The building was hive of activity as there were many attractions set up for kids to interact with. There was a penalty shot station and a soccer/volleyball station for middle-to-big kids and a small elevated soccer kicking station for little kids.

Langley-based Vancouver FC were also on hand. The team had a booth set up and were giving away prizes, which included free tickets to any upcoming match.

Christina Bast was at the Agriplex fan zone with family from Surrey. Bast, who is visiting from the U.S., said she was “really excited” to hit the fan zone after attending one in Minnesota last week.

“It’s really nice here,” she said. “It’s very fun to be in Canada. We feel very welcome here and it’s fun to be in the middle of all this World Cup excitement.”

Bast was aware a musician was set to take the stage after the game and planned to stick around for the entertainment, but it would “depend on how long the kids last.”

She said in total there were five kids in her group and they were all having a great time at the fan zone.

One of those kids, 10-year-old Hudson, who also happens to deliver papers for Black Press Media, said he was enjoying the fan zone too.

“I like (watching) the game the most,” he said, “then the penalty kicks.”

The penalty-kick area was set up at the back of the Agriplex.

There is no admission price to any of Surrey’s soccer fan zones: the Agriplex, Civic Plaza, Holland Park, and South Surrey Athletic Park. The sites have soccer-related activities, food and bar service, live music before and after games, and other attractions.

The Cloverdale Agriplex will host matches on the big screen and live bands on their remaining event days: July 10 (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.), July 11 (1 – 9 p.m.), July 14 (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.), July 15 (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.), July 18 – Bronze medal game – (1 – 5 p.m.), and July 19 – World Cup Final – (11 a.m. – 3 p.m.).
