Fever vs. Aces: The matchup
The Aces go into Sunday as home betting favorites (-5.5) and coming off a lopsided 106-58 win over the Phoenix Mercury on their home floor on Saturday. Las Vegas improved to 17-6 and tied for the third-biggest margin of victory in WNBA history, outscoring Phoenix 29-9 in the first quarter on its way to a comfy win where starters could rest late. Aces star center A’ja Wilson went for 21 points and 15 rebounds in just 25 minutes, while Justine Pissott and Cheyenne Parker-Tyus scored 19 and 15 points, respectively, off the bench. The win marked the Aces’ third in four games as they remained even with the Minnesota Lynx at the top of a tight Western Conference pack.
With Saturday losses by the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream, Clark and the Fever moved into sole possession of the top spot in the Eastern Conference with a 13-9 season record and wins in three of its past four. Most recently, Indiana took down the Mercury (92-89) in Phoenix to improve to 2-1 on a current road trip that began with an 84-68 win over the Aces a week ago. Mitchell led the Fever in scoring for the third of five straight occasions in the last meeting in Vegas, and she dropped 29 in Thursday’s win in Phoenix.
