1 in hospital after large house fire in Surrey

One person was taken to hospital Wednesday night while Surrey Fire Service crews fought a sizable house fire in a neighbourhood close to Bear Creek Park.
Around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday (July 8), firefighters responded to a house fire in the 9000-block of Edinburgh Place.
Firefighters arrived to flames shooting out of all sides of the house, with reports of fireworks going off in the garage as well.
Surrey Fire Service assistant chief Geoff McIntyre confirmed firefighting crews reported “what may or may not have been fireworks … going off during the fire operations from one part of the house, but it’s undetermined whether or not they had anything to do with the the cause of the fire.”
McIntyre said one person, a civilian, was taken to hospital but the extent of any injuries is unknown.
Due to the size and extent of the fire, crews had to reportedly fight the fire defensively from the outside and protect the nearby homes.
Around 20 firefighters responded to the incident, which was brought under control within an hour.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
