Victor Wembanyama is signed, sealed and delivered for at least the next five years, and the details of his new contract are turning heads across the NBA.

Wembanyama officially put pen to paper Friday afternoon in Paris, with the Spurs’ front office making the trip overseas to celebrate with their franchise player.
Wemby had the option to sign a deal with supermax escalators worth more than $300 million, but instead he left more than $50 million on the table. The move gives the Spurs more financial flexibility to keep this core together and continue building a championship contender around him.
Wembanyama will make just over $16 million this coming season. When the new extension begins next summer, his salary jumps to about $43 million and climbs to more than $57 million by the fifth year.
The deal also includes a player option in the final season, giving him the opportunity to opt out and become a free agent if he chooses.
By accepting more than $50 million less than the maximum he could have earned, Wembanyama is sending a clear message: winning matters more than maximizing every dollar of his contract.
