Over 4,200 pounds of prepared food, protein, dairy, and fresh produce – including onions, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, eggs, yogurt, beans, and entrées are going to Siloam Mission’s kitchen following the annual Winnipeg Folk Festival.
The 51st annual Festival brought in enough food to provide three meals a day for four days, totalling approximately 6,000 high-protein, hearty, and nutritious meals for community members.
The donation was made possible thanks to Chef Ben Kramer, several dedicated Winnipeg Folk Festival volunteers, Second Harvest Food Rescue and Shortline Transport. The collaboration ensured excess food was delivered to people who need it most.
The need for food donations was timely as outside temperatures continue to rise.
As Siloam Mission tries to keep up with demand and operates the overnight shelter and drop-in 24/7, demand for food and water has skyrocketed. To help stay hydrated, over 600 bottles of water are being given out to help community members stay hydrated and safe during the heat.
