NEWS RELEASE

DOUG BRADFORD

*******************

For decades, artist Doug Bradford has captured the landscapes, people, stories, and spirit of Northern Ontario through the delicate and expressive medium of watercolour.

On July 22, the community is invited to celebrate his extraordinary artistic journey at the Doug Bradford Art Exhibit and Sale, taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Art Hub at Spring, 504 Queen St. E. in downtown Sault Ste. Marie.

Doug Bradford is more than a prolific painter. He is an Anishinaabe artist, Canadian Forces artist, portrait painter, teacher, mentor, and storyteller whose artwork has travelled far beyond Northern Ontario.

Bradford’s distinguished artistic career includes works held in the collection of the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, while his paintings are also treasured in private collections throughout Canada and internationally, including in the United States, Japan, and Holland.

Yet some of his most meaningful artistic contributions can be found much closer to home.

Through his watercolours, Bradford has spent a lifetime capturing the rugged beauty and distinctive character of Northern Ontario. His paintings preserve familiar landscapes, places, and moments, while his portraits celebrate the faces and personalities of people within the local community.

For those fortunate enough to visit his gallery-like home and studio, the experience is unforgettable. Paintings fill the space, each one representing a story, a place, a person, or a moment in time. It is there that Bradford has also shared his passion and knowledge with others, teaching watercolour painting and encouraging generations of artists to discover their own creativity.

His work reflects not only artistic skill, but a deep connection to land, community, culture, and the people whose stories deserve to be remembered. Throughout his career, Bradford has also created commissioned works, transforming personal stories, meaningful places, and cherished memories into original paintings that become part of the lives and histories of the people who own them.

The Doug Bradford Art Exhibit and Sale is an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate an artist whose life and work are deeply connected to Sault Ste. Marie and Northern Ontario.

Visitors will have the opportunity to experience a collection of Bradford’s original artwork, learn more about his remarkable artistic journey, and purchase original works of art. This special evening is not simply an art exhibit. It is a celebration of a lifetime devoted to painting, teaching, storytelling, and sharing the beauty of Northern Ontario with people at home and around the world.
