Even though there are no more World Cup games left to be played in the city, Vancouver’s giant soccer ball is sticking around for a little while longer.
Due to “overwhelming support,” Science World has announced that The Beautiful Dome will remain in place on its iconic geodesic dome until September 7th.
“The Beautiful Dome started as an ambitious dream and became one of the defining images of the FIFA World Cup 2026™. We are thrilled to see it being shared by news outlets around the world and in countless social media posts,” said said Rob Hollingsworth, Senior Director, Commercial Sales & Partnerships at Science World.
“The transformation of Science World’s iconic dome into the Trionda™, the FIFA World Cup 2026™Official Match Ball, was no small engineering feat. Each of the 131 panels had to be custom-created and installed to create a 360-degree, 40-metre-diameter re-creation of the ball. We’re thankful for all our partners in bringing this to life.”
Installation started in early May and took roughly one month to complete.
The extension aligns with the closing date of Science World’s feature exhibition, Soccer & Technology from the FIFA Museum. The exhibit takes fans behind the scenes of the beautiful game, highlighting how innovation and technology continue to shape the evolution of soccer.
